UQMG for 1946 being updated and developed?

Postby ramstein on Thu Dec 21, 2006 5:09 am

Hi,
I am looking for information here to see if UQMG for 1946 is being updated and developed? if so when ? It is wonderful having UQMG, and I know you have been busy with real life.

I appreciate your work and so does the community. Do you have a team of volunteers that are or wil be working on an upgrade for 1946?

Thank you,
609_Ramstein

I think it would be best to ask UberDemon in the UQMG forum
I've made a copy of your post there to spare you the hassle of re-posting :)

I certainly hope UberDemon see's this and replys . . . . .

His tool and DCG are the best third part tools IMHO.

At least for mission creation . . .

The answer is yes.

The update is done for all new objects. I just finished the Singapore2 map template, and I am working on another one... but would like to include a few more maps as well. There is a lot that goes into updating UQMG and especially creating new maps. I hope you can understand.

Just take your time UberDemon. It's a lot of hard work, but I'm sure all of us do appreciate it very much. Don't forget to fly yourself now and then ;)

My hard-drive crashed last week, so I've been hard pressed for some other things non-UQMG related. I'll get to it as soon as I get the time.

I have a lot of the work done already.

ooo darn - hope you didn't loose too much in the crash.
As a side-thought - Its a good idea to keep harddrives cool.
at every 10 degrees C above 40C the lifespan halves :o

sorry, didn't mean to be pushy,,,

I just miss the program,,, even though I can still use the non 1946 version... I thought more time had passed since the crash and was very relieved you were able to save the data, as you must have been... I am a pack rat and save multiple copies of everything.. burning DVD backups is very cheap too nowdays..

ramstein, If you have been making backups to optical media - be aware these loose data starting from 1 year after burn. DVD (re)writables will hold their data secure a little bit longer, but are unsafe too. CD (re)writables will definitely have lost data within 5 years after burn, and be completely useless in 5-10 years. The only safe way to make a backup is to magnetic media. Tape/Hard drives are still the most reliable. There are several manufacturers of so-called mobile frames, where you insert a standard HD into a frame that slots-in into a 5" bay mobile frame. Some of these are even "hot swappable"- meaning you can change drives while the computer is running. There are several utilities to bring back data from a crashed HD that lost data (http://www.grc.com's SpinRight is an example of this. FarStone technology's RestoreIT will make incremental backups to a hidden partition on a drive or a second drive (burning to CD/DVD is possible), and when needed will restore lost data before windows starts. They've recently struck a deal to package it with several major Intel MoBo producers and have been awarded patents for this utility. you can read more at http://www.farstone.com check Software- Recovery in the menu there.
SpinRight can be found at http://www.grc.com (Home of ShieldsUp! online security test)
