WW I?

Postby chaz on Tue Aug 02, 2005 7:50 pm

Hello everyone. This is my first post and I hope to learn a bundle.

I have just ordered PF and I will be backtracking to install IL2FB at the 1st oppurtunity.

I am opinionated as heck, so I will do my darndest no to offend anyone, and I am always careful to do my homework first. I am not an expert on WW2 aviation so I will defer to those who are.

The only thing I am an expert on is music of the 1920's, 30's and '40s, so if there is anything you want to know, please ask.

Now on to my post.

I am hoping and praying that Oleg and his merry band will tackle WW I aviation. It was always my first love.

I recall being told stories by my late mum about the Collishaw boys (sons of Raymond Collishaw) flying planes out of their back yard in the 1930's (nan was a neighbour).

Anything to this wish or am I wishing in the wind? Any thoughts?

Hi Chaz and welcome to the forum.

I agree that a WWI add-on would be brilliant with this series and I would definitely purchase any such add-on myself. Unfortunately I don't think the developers and distributors see any real money in it which is a bloody shame.

I wonder how long it will be before WWII combat sims are no longer seen as profitable.

Cheers, CrazySchmidt. :)

Yeeaaaahhhh,
I have shot down "The Red Baron" in a previous game.
Nothing however has been developed since '98 of any note that I am aware of.
The sensation of flying a Sopwith Camel is something else.
All power to any developer who is prepared to chace the market.

Welcome to the addiction! I encourage you to go right out and get the Gold Pack of IL-2 because while it has no WWI aircraft, it does have many late 1930's aircraft including many carburated biplanes that you have to watch pulling negative G's or they will stall... just like in real life, imagine that!

Also, this is just my opinion mind you, but I feel those who fly the supposed "junk aircraft" in this game are actually the very finest of virtual pilots. The fact that they don't sit back and whine that their aircraft is or isn't the best pays them no never mind! They simply learn the strengths and weaknesses of a given plane and use like, their brain to fly! One of the greatest things I ever saw online was a biplane knocking down ME-262's one right after the next because the 262's could not fly slow or turn fast.

Hi,
I agree with all Luckyboy and the others on this topic have said.
But I am only biding my time with Il2Sturmovik, great that it is, until the next WW1, FB grade flight sim hits the market.
When you see The Red Barons triplane coming at you with The Circus in close attendance you know you are flying.
To take on Immelmann in his einedekker will show if you are a man or not.
Sorry Oleg you are God to us but my first love is flying by the seat of my trousers with some other nut trying to kill me.
The guys in 131st agree with me on this one.
See you over the Somme soon hopefully!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a decent realistically flight modelled WWI flight sim game; but to my knowledge, that game simply does not exist at this point.

WWII sims are a bit more popular than WWI sims and between the high cost of developing a realistic flight sim game and all the piracy of games going on these days, I doubt we'll see anything developed until at least the piracy issue is adequately addressed and with the way things are going on that one, I wouldn't look forward to any serious development in the next few years.

I can't get to the link from work but there is in fact a WWI sim being developed at the moment (it's based on the IL2 engine).

head to the IL2 forum at http://www.simhq.com and check out the thread "WWI sim based on IL2).

WWI sim, based on the IL-2 engine announced, if there is enough interest I can open a forum and start a section on the main website covering this sim.

Well as I said before I am extremely interested in any WW1 sim made too the standard of Il2 or FB.
I briefly played a WW1 sim made in '98 and it is fantastic to see The Red Baron and "The Circus" in flight even if it was early days for sims then and no where near as good as Il2 versions.
Hopefully if enough interest is generated a good one may be developed.
Your link site looks good hopefully it will come to fruition, lets hope so.
