I love the "users" genral defintion of spam. They don't pay attention to the fact that they signed up for something that not only allows them to be spammed by them, but also allows the company in question to pass around their e-mail address like some biker chick!
I think the newsletter is an excellent idea as long as you...
1) Make it so someone has to like, check a box or do something affirmative and direct to be signed up. I know you'd never do this Snoop, but we've all been to the website where they pre-check it's ok to spam me and pass around my e-mail address. In my opinion, this is the height of dishonesty. I'm not mentioning it because I think there's a chance in hell you would do such a thing, but to assure the readers that you won't.
2) Make it easy to unsubscribe.
3) Never, for any reason give out the e-mail addresses of members to enyone else. Maybe you can trust the person or organization you deal with, but with the exception of maybe
http://www.magnum-pc.com you really can't trust the people they may give the information to. Joe at
http://www.magnum-pc.com not only makes sure whoever he gives an e-mail address to...
sometimes it is needed for an order
that they handle that e-mail address with care. He jealously guards you information to the true best of his ability.
In fact, it would be great if we could sign up to be spammed by companies like
http://www.magnum-pc.com After all, as long as we know they are not giving out our e-mail address and it's a company Snoop thinks is worth knowing about... and others should chime in as well, it can only help those who read this forum.
