QMT Installation Prob.

Postby Elsmoko on Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:19 am

Received the following error message when I tried to install Ver 202:
"The installation was interrupted before the quick mission tuner
could be installed."
Any idea what is causing this?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi,

After a quick google search I found in one case it was AVG. Another case was caused by an incomplete install of Window XP SP2. Another cause maybe trying to run both versions of QMT.

I help that helps,

Thanks for the prompt reply.
What is AVG? (NOT Flying Tigers I assume :)
Also,
>>"Trying to run both versions of QMT"<< Does this mean
having an earlier version installed on my computer?

AVG is an anti-virus program.

Yes, an earlier version of QMT that was not uninstalled or running an earlier version and the new version.

How do I uninstall my original copy of QMT? I cannot find an
"Uninstall" executable and cannot find it in my Control Panel
"Add and Remove Programs" list.
I'll attempt another install of Ver 202 if I can get my current
Version (1.6.0.8) uninstalled.
Thanks again,
Ken B.

It's best to close Virusscanners/firewalls when installing new software - they may stop the install without asking/informing you.
This may not allways be possible as many of these protection programs have services running in the background that don't show a pictogramin the taskbar. In that case click start - run - type 'services.mfc' click OK and check what's running Right-click the service you want to stop - an option will be there to stop it. If you left-click it to the left will be options to start/stop and a short description of the service.

I always close all non required programs prior to installing anything
on my computer; but I do not run any antivirus stuff in the background
anyway. It's a big pain in the butt ~:)

If a program uses a service, it may be running without you being able to see it. That's where services.mfc enters the view ;)

Hi,

Try the Windows uninstall utility. QMT does create an entry in the control panel Add/Remove Program, but sometimes Windows will lose the entry and the clean-up utility will help.

Yes. And I ensured that my AV software and firewall were OFF
(checked the "Services") prior to my last install attempt.

I'm pretty sure I know where your system is stopping the install. I also think MaXMhz advice is correct. You can try to install QMT in safe mode and see if the program stopping InstallShield doesn't load so QMT can finish the install. If safe mode doesn't work, I just don't know what program or service is preventing InstallShield from completing the install.

I already tried to install in safe mode and received a message that
the Install service can not be run in safe mode >> which was news to
me. I have beleived (until now) that it was possible to install programs
in safe mode in Win XP. I attempted to start the Install program
Services while in safe mode using the XP "Services" applet butt
received a message that these services cannot be started
while in Safe mode ~:(

Is it possible that a router is interferring with the install? can you tell
me what port(s) (if any) the installation requires to be open? If
you can do this then I'll enable them for the router.
FYI; I've already disabled all the routers security stuff for the install and
it didn't seem to matter so perhaps if I open a port ...........
Thanks again,
Ken
