20 dB boost in microphone settings keeps turning off

Postby DocJon on Thu Mar 09, 2006 8:39 pm

I've been using VAC for about a week or so. Works great. You may remember my post from a week ago, where I wrote about Battlefield 2 and having multiple PTT keys.

I've noticed an unusual problem: When having the VAC system running and activated, sometimes my clan-mates can't hear me in Teamspeak. Upon investigation, it's because the little checkbox next to the Microphone +20 dB boost in the Recording Controls/Microphones/Advanced section keeps coming unchecked. This happens as much as twice a gaming session (over a few hours). I've taken to leaving the Recording control box up, so that I can quickly remedy the problem when it occurs.

This did not happen prior to using VAC. I don't know if it is a VAC issue or an issue with the Microsoft speech recognition it uses, but it definately happens to me.

As a quick and dirty fix, I went looking for a prg that would allow me to toggle this boost with a keypress (to avoid minimizing the game to fix it). It's too odd and specialized a need - no such program exists, apparently.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any thoughts on this problem? I will provide any additional info you need on my system.

P4 2.6 gHz
2 gig RAM
Windows XP SP1 (should get around to SP2 sometime)
Windows English Recognizer v5.1
Soundblaster Live!

Thank you,

Yes, I remember you and I'm working on the multiple PTD switch. To answer your question there is a switch to set in the Control Panel/Speech Properties. With the Speech Properties windows open look in the middle under Recognition Profiles select the Settings button. This will bring up the Recognition Profile Settings window, under Background Adaptation uncheck the check box. That should keep the microphone volume level constant.

Thank you. Change made. I'll post back if any further issues with this occur.
