Speech Properties

Postby VR Chalky on Fri Jun 02, 2006 12:37 pm

Hi folks!

A strange thing has just happened.

When I tried to open VAC I got this message:

"SAPI failed to initialize" So thinking this was a VAC problem re-installed V 1.8.5 still no joy

Decided to look in Control Panel, Speech Properties to see just what the prob was. Clicked on 'Speech' and received:

"The requested task cannot be carried out because the necessary engine could not be created. Please select a different engine and/or a different audio device" :?

By engine does this refer to Microsoft English Recognizer v5.1??? The audio input device is SB X-Fi (CCEO).

Just as things were going so smoothly too!

Cheers

Hi VR,

Yes, the error is because Windows is looking for the “Microsoft English Recognizer”. Download and install the full version of VAC and you should be back up and running. You can install over your current install.

I hope that helps,

Hi Ron

Thanks all back up and working as before :) ! I have vac_185.zip and when I came to the options: Modify, Repair or Uninstall. I hit Repair thinking that would do the trick .... wrong

Cheers
