Hello Ralph,

Look in the Control Panel and open Sounds and Audio Devices. You’ll five tabs across the top Volume, Sounds, Audio, Voice and Hardware, select the Audio tab. You should see three areas Sound playback, Sound recording and MIDI music playback. Sound recording is the area that would tell your computer which microphone to use.

I hope that helps,

yes thats the problem, i change it to the mic i want to use and as soon as i switch programs to VAC it changes it back to the wrong mic so it does now work!

it is definatly soemthing in VAC which is reseting the mic to the wrong one as soon as i enter the speech learnign thingy.

cheers

Hi Ralph,

What are the choices you have for Sound recording in Sounds and Audio Devices?

Windows will use the microphone you select in the Sounds and Audio Devices. VAC does not change the selected microphone from the Sounds and Audio Devices; it will use the selected device. What that is telling me is you do not have the correct microphone setup in the Sounds and Audio Devices.

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the video. What was shown is correct, the microphone should be muted in the playback mode. The window with the volume sliders is called the Volume Control, if you look at the menu selections there you’ll see Options\Properties, it’s under properties you can change it to recording mode. In the recording mode there is a check box called ‘Select” and that should be checked.

This is what you are looking at (notice mine is muted too).

Image
Change it to recording under 'Adjust volume for' for the record mode.

This is what you should be looking at and make sure the 'Select' is checked.

In your first post, you said, “i set it up to Mic input, ever time i move back to VAC it mutes mic and goes to front mic, i dont use my front mic!!!!”. How many microphones do you have connected to your computer? If you have more than one, which your quote implies then you need to set the correct microphone up the Sounds and Audio Devices.

I hope this helps,

The advanced controls are sound card depended and will only show up if the sound card you have installed supports the features in the advanced control.
