Thinking of buying VAC

Postby sgilewicz on Mon Jun 13, 2005 5:20 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member of airwarfare.com although I have be an avid flight simmer for over ten years! I have been using Game Commander 2 and 3 for the last couple of years and have become increasingly unhappy with it (after my latest PC purchase one month ago it has taken to random GC3.exe crashes once or twice a day  I read rave reviews of your VAC system on the IL2 FB GD forum Shift_E so I downloaded the trial version to give it a spin. I also downloaded Dastardley's IL2 FB profile. After installing the trial version I followed the VAC tips and did the voice training and checked that Microsoft VR v5.1 was enabled. All seemed fine until I tried to import Dastardley's profile. When I tried to open it nothing was there! Does the trial version allow profile importing? I'd like to get away from GC3 and your users reviews have been superb but there's nothing like hands on experience to be sure! Thanks.

Hi Stan,

Welcome to Airwarfare. First VAC is fully operational for 30 days, there is no trial version, you have the latest greatest.

It sounds like you have VAC setup correctly. To import, place the profile unzipped on your system, "My Documents" would be good. Run the VAC Builder and select "Import" from the File menu, after you make the import selection select load profile from the same File menu. The profile has to be imported, copying the profile to the VAC Profile folder will not work.

The VAC Builder is just a tool to build and maintain profiles for VAC System and it's VAC System that will run the profile and send the keyboard commands for use in the game.

Feel free to email me if you want.

I hope this helps,

I'll give it a try this evening and see how it goes (I'd really like to ditch GC3!). Thanks for the quick reply.

H Stan,

No problem. I think you'll find VAC to be pretty good, I've never seen GC so I can't say. Give VAC a good try you have lots of time. :)

No go on file import!

Postby sgilewicz on Tue Jun 14, 2005 2:50 pm

Well I imported Dastardley's IL2 FB profile after redirecting his game directory entries using find/replace in notepad. When I click on the "file" tab the import function is grayed out. If I try to reimport it says that the profile already exists and do I want to overwrite it. What am I missing? I'd really like to test this out but I must be doing or not doing a required step(s). Thanks.

Hi Stan,

Hmmm.... I'm not sure what's happening, if the import function is grayed out how did you get the already exists message when you try to reimport? It's important to know that the import makes a profile known to VAC and is only needed one time. Once the profile is imported use the load profile from then on.

Or we can start over. If you go the VAC install directory and delete the file "Profiles.xml" and the folder "Profiles". After the two items are deleted do the following:

1. Start VAC Builder.
2. Select "Import VAC Profile" from the "File" menu.
3. Navigate to the Dastardley's IL2 FB profile, select it and click on the "Open" button.
4. Select "Load Profile" from the "File" menu and select the listed profile. That's all there is to it.

The import function copies the profile from one location to the profile folder in the VAC install directory. VAC mantains a profile list in "Profiles.xml" and the import function does all this for VAC.

I hope this helps,

Give VAC a good run through before buying it. I'm home tonight, email if you run into problems.

No go Shift_E :( I deleted the profile and then the profile directory. I imported Dastardley's profile and when I click on "file" it's grayed out. Any files I can send that might help resolving this? Just let me know. Thanks!

Hi Stan,

Yes, send me your "Profiles.xml" and tell me what is in the "X:\Program Files\VAC System\Profiles" folder. Also, tell me where Dastardley's file was when you did the import. My email address is in the help file under support.

We'll get this working, I'm sure it's something simple.

Hope to hear from you soon,
