Speech properties question.

Postby Killerwatt on Fri Sep 23, 2005 11:48 am

Hi, I am thinking about using this proggy For BOB II WOV but I have a problem. On checking my speech properties in control panel, I find that I only have a text to speech tab and no speech recognition tab. How can I rectify this? Is there something I need to download from Microsoft? (Sorry if this is a dumb question).

Not a dumb question at all. If you go to the download section at http://www.dwvac.com you'll see two files to download, VAC core at 6.5mb and VAC full at 38mb. Download and install the VAC full which contains the MS 5.1 speech engine plus the VAC core install. You'll only have to install the full version once and the core version from then on with any new updates.

I hope that help,

Thanks for the info and also the prompt reply Shift E. I am downloading as I type. Now for my second question. WOV uses a series of key presses to get to a specific radio command. For instance to report bandits I would press "R" for radio, "3" for combat and finally "1" for bandits. Is it possible to program that sequence of key presses to just one phrase, for example "bandits sighted"?

Absolutely, there are a couple ways to get that done. When you run VAC Builder you’ll see the Command List area in the Character Key area you’d put “r13”, when VAC recognizes the spoken phrase it will send “r”, “1” and “3”. If you need a longer pause between the key presses you can adjust those parameters in the Command Attributes area. Another way to accomplish the same thing is to creating a command for each string the first string command would be “r”, the next would be “1” and then “3” being the last. Either way will get the same results.

You need to be aware of entering upper case characters “R” is Shift+R and that can be enters as “R” in the character box or “Shift” in the Qualifier drop down box and “r” in the Character box. If the game calls for “r” make sure you enter a lower case “r”.

You can create a pretty long key sequence for each action if you want, you're only limited by your imagination.

Take the time and run through a voice training session, once is enough and you'll be glad you did. You have 30 days to test it out so take your time. :)

Enjoy,
