Exclusive PTA key

Postby WhiskeyBravo on Mon Sep 26, 2005 12:42 pm

Hi Shift_E,

I use F11 for a PTA key and would like to make it an exclusive key but the box remains greyed out. I notice that if I select eg. CTRL+F11 then that is allowed but not F11 on its own. Any reason?

Is it because its not a registered version? (payment on the way btw)

Hi WB,

No, the unregistered version is not crippled in any way, just time limited.

When I was adding that functionality I had what I thought was a good reason for not allowing the second key to be non exclusive. Making the key exclusive would mean no other program, except VAC would see the key press. I was affraid it would cause problems, however my logic is not always the best. :) The function was mainly added to stop Windows menu actions from the "ALT" and "Win" keys.

If you think it would be better to allow all keys to be included, I can change it in VAC. You can also edit the profile in Notepad to make the "F11" key exclusive, if you'd like I can tell you how.

Thank you for registering and supporting shareware!

Hi Shift_E,

I understand your logic and it seems reasonable, I can't really think of any arguments for or against it - apart from 'it doesn't work for me in this particular instance'. Actually, by not working as I wanted it caused me to avoid a problem I wouldn't have noticed until too late with my joystick transmit keys.

Just for info though, my TrackIR uses F8, F9 and F12 exclusively and doesn't cause any problems. I just have to be aware of it when programming keys for different games.

Thinking about it a bit more, I think your solution is best as it will avoid lots of 'why isn't this working' type posts from people who don't want to get too deeply into how a particular program works.

Thanks again,

WB.

Hi WB,

I wasn't sure any one could follow my logic. :D The exclusive function is very narrow in it's functionality.
