VAC with Falcon

Postby Pigpen on Sat Dec 10, 2005 8:38 am

OK, so I have VAC installed, trained, a profile created and saved including a push to talk button defined, got the little microphone icon with a "P" showing on the bottom of the screen.

So I start Falcon, push the "push to talk" button, give a command to a wingman, and nothing happens...diddly, zilch, nada.

What else do I need to do to make this work?

Hello,

The “P” icon shows only that a profile is loaded, you also need the “O” showing in the icon which tells you VAC is on. Right-click the icon in the system tray and select “VAC On”, the icon should change showing both “O” and “P”.

To use VAC you don’t need a PTA key assigned, but if you are having trouble in Falcon then this should help you http://www.airwarfare.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=794.

I hope this helps,

Shift_E,

Sorry, I should have been clearer; the "O" is also showing in the system tray.

About the push-to-talk function key, I found when using Game Commander with Falcon (several years ago), that *I* need to have a push to talk function, since I tend to curse or mumble when I'm in "deep doo-doo", and the mic picks that up as commands, then giving me more trouble.

I looked at the thread you suggested, but that doesn't really help.

Hi Pigpen,

Okay, so VAC is on and the profile loaded, excellent. What I believe is happening in the game is the key used for PTA and the issued command from VAC is seen as a key combination, and then the command is not recognized in the game. For example: VAC’s PTA key is “R-Ctrl” and the action command is “t”, you press and hold “R-Ctrl” and issue the command, which sends “t”, the game sees “R-Ctrl” + “t” as the command. Use Notepad to test your PTA key, make Notepad active and issue a voice command with and without the PTA key. You should see the key sent in the Notepad window. That being said, what is working for users who which to use PTA is to use a mouse button like the middle mouse button for PTA, then assign a joystick button to the issue the middle mouse button. Mouse buttons and key presses are not being seen as key combinations in these games.

If you want to try VAC without the PTA key, use phrases instead of one word commands, it will make recognition faster and more accurate. You can make VAC pickier on recognition if you bump the Pronunciation slider in profile properties (see http://www.dwvac.com/vactips.htm).

I hope this helps,
