This is the first autobiography I have read of an American Flyer and it is an amazing story. James Goodson volunteered for the RAF when war broke out and flew in the RAF squadrons and the Eagle squadron before transferring to the Fourth Fighter Group USAAF.
He tells his own story but also devotes chapters to the outstanding characters that he flew with such as Don Blakeslee, Vic France, Ralph Hofer, Willard Millikan, Don Gentile and others.
As a Scot I was familiar with the RAF flyers and have read many Luftwaffe biographies but at last I was able to get a picture of american flyers that I had little knowledge of .
His style is modest and there is a good variety of character description and action , he also makes interesting comparisons on the planes he flew and those he flew against so there is a lot here to interest anyone who likes to read this type of book.
